A stamp is a page drawn on top of another page. That one mechanism covers most of what people mean by branding a document: a letterhead applied to a plain export, a diagonal DRAFT across a circulating version, a signature block dropped onto the last page of an agreement.
Because the stamp is itself a PDF, it can hold anything a PDF can hold: vector artwork, a logo, real text that stays selectable and searchable in the result.
Design the stamp at the same page size as the document. A stamp on a smaller page is drawn from the bottom left corner rather than being scaled to fit, which is rarely what a caller wants.
Only the first page is used. A stamp is a single mark applied across the document, so the rest of the file is ignored.
Only where it is opaque. A stamp with a transparent background lets the page show through, which is what a diagonal DRAFT mark or a watermark-style overlay needs.
The same as the document. A stamp on a smaller page is placed from the bottom left corner rather than scaled to fit.
